On Friday, Breen Track Club opened up its 2016 Indoor Season with a meet at University of Michigan. In the first event, 1600m, two girls opened their season with a state qualifying performance. Nicole Hanson (senior, Clarkston HS) went 5:19.2 (6th) and Elizabeth Dalrymple (freshman, Clarkston HS) went 5:23.9 (11th). Alex Ross (Junior, Groves HS) ran a tough 1600m/3200m double on his first meet, and found great success in his second race of the night. He ran a 10:08.97 (6th) which was a state qualifying performance. In the field events, Hannah Hayes (junior, Troy Athens HS) and Megan Worrell (sophomore, Troy HS) tied for 4th place with a state qualifying jump of 5′-0″.
About 40 BTC members participated in the meet. For returning runners, many showed tremendous growth from last year’s season. Sprinters Aaron Lai (senior, Troy HS) is already about 0.5 seconds faster than last year in the 60m and almost a second faster in the 200m, Kyle Darencou (junior, Troy HS) is about a second faster in the 60m hurdles. Middle distance runners Marcus Jackson (sophomore, Royal Oak HS) ran a couple seconds faster in the 800m, as was Amanda Capaldi (junior, Rochester HS). In the distance events, Kyle Johnson (junior, Rochester HS) ran 5 seconds ahead of his 2015 indoor best, Andrew Dingwall (junior, Troy HS) was 11 seconds faster.
